New Twisted Tales stories
Just sent off two new Twisted Tales to 2000AD and they are doozies. Really happy with them. My favourite is one called The Trapper which has a fair bit going on in it, revenge, benevolence and the duplicity of man. Here’s a pic of the grizzly old dope himself
Again, these stories are all told silent with no words, THE WAY COMICS SHOULD BE!!!. I ‘ve just finished an interview with a lad doing a media project where I spout all my lame theories about silent comics which I’ll post next week if he has it.
The next one is called The Prisoner and this is the one that Dec did the breakdowns for. First time we’ve worked together since we held down that lad and smeared— can’t talk about that here.
That’s a pic of the nasty little brats at the centre of the story. I used old school tones on this one and it’s a sweet looking effect. Don’t know when they’re running but I’ll put a post when I know.

Digging the zipatone in bottom image but really love the inks in the top one esp the face and hair - digitaly inked?

Ah man theres a thing in the new imaginefx about the top ten no-no’s in colouring, number one………lens flare!! The Comic Sans of photoshop.
Nah Cliodhna, not actual zipatone!! Digital tones baby. The whole thing is digital, can’t wipe my arse without that Wacom.

If a silent comic falls in a forest…..
My first exposure to the graphic novel - and boys own type racism - tintin had loads of silence, long scenes with no dialogue at all and the odd large impressive silent panel. It was great then and its great now.
But blindfolded comics now thats the future..

let`s not forget most(if not all)of jim woodrings stuff is silent,a load of early newspaper strips and even the muddahfuckin bayeuex tapestry!
oh and in terms of fonts,comic sans is all right if used right(most of comics i lettered with it look cheap and lifless for some reason…)

Look at Luke spouting knowledge! Yeah lads silent, digitally produced comics by a bitter hack from Tallaght are the way of the future. Fuck ALL comic fonts, I use them and it’s lame

Thomas Ott does some of the best silent comics and Eric Drookers Blood song was a pretty decent to.

What were the other top 10 no-no’s in colouring? Spare me the cost of buying it. Imagine FX is expensive. Really dig the digital zipatone. Want to try it meself.

Right, I’m gonna be the voice of dissent here and point out that the likes of Chris Ware, Daniel Clowes and Adrian Tomine couldn’t tell a lot of the stories they’ve told so well without dialogue or text. Or am I the only person here watching movies with the sound turned on as well? (Fuck, if I am I’m suddenly going to feel severely lowbrow, culturally speaking…)
I still think the best thing to come out of the whole Ban Comic Sans thing was that Achewood strip. “The disease is inside of you!”

Blammo! Oh I’m such a heathen, I go on about how much I love silent comics but never heard of that Thomas Ott chap, just checked him out last night Cliodhna, brilliant stuff.
Luke stop going on to wikipedia and boning up on your comic history. You should be building Airfix planes.

Cannot wait for these man the last bunch were quality!
Great to see ur stuff in my local newsagent in Sheffield
rather than just on my trips to Dub (usually read through bleary
eyes after a night out with the cousins).
Your stuff reminds me of the strips in 90s Britcomic Toxic
(not the current Toxic with Billy Piper etc in it!) which did a great job
of subverting me in my teens.
