Twisted Tales this week

Hey hey hey buddies and fwendy bears, one of my new Twisted Tales is in this weeks 2000AD. Got my name on the cover which is big deal for me. Here it is

A bloke in work gave me 1000+ issues of 2000AD in cbr format and I’m working my way through them. Blown away by the early issues, such tight writing and fucking deadly art. Absolutely crammed with goodness and excitement. The modern trend for decompression of stories so that they can get the all important trade paperback out really shows compared to these gems.

Started to fall back in love with Dredd and am drawing him a fair bit now in my doodle time. What a great character.

    Well done Bob.
Is that a Steve Yeowell cover?
I can’t remember my co-workers names (all 5 of them) , but you can put any 2000ad artists work (from 1986-1994) in front of me and I know their names. Sad how the brain works.

  2. uiscebot Says:

steve yeowell is fuckin deadly. cant wait to see you on the cover byrney

  3. PMC Says:

Cool-start pushing them for the cover!

  4. Bob Byrne Says:

Yep I think thats Yeowell, Havent got my hands on it yet. Maybe my crappy stiff Dredd pics are cover material. I’ll post my Dredd soon.
Look at this, the spec for the Lawgiver http://www.2000adonline.com/functions/tekimage.php3?Image=lawgiver

  5. Emmet Says:

    I remember that lawgiver spec.
I always found Gibson’s early Dredd a bit weird around the eyes (though I think I remember 1 or 2 early bolland dredds with those roundy eyes too).

haven’t looked at any 2000ad stuff since the dredd movie came out. There was so much good stuff there, must start looking through it again.

  6. uiscebot Says:

Ah gibson did a mean dredd. Boland is a legend but i never liked his. Too skinny or something. The shoulder pads didnt look like they’d break an ordinary perp fall over that was it.

I despise Ezquerras dredd from the old comics in the seventies, its interesting to see how his dredd changed to match the times. I fuckin love 2000ad!! And byrney draws for it!!!! Yay!!! looking forward to the dredd post

  7. Jim Connolly Says:

I think a Dredd strip in ur style (preferably silent) would work really well mate.
The Dredd film seemed to miss the point completely and they turned his badass chopper into a suped-up shopmobility trolley. Never really pictured stallone as the role. Think Mickey Rourke could do a good job of it.

  8. Emmet Says:

yeah, something like “Bob Byrne’s tales of mega city one”

Silent strips, that follow around individual citizens in mega city one, but who’s paths inevitably cross with Dredd.

  9. luke Says:

to answer an earlier question it`s Yeowell who did the cover
and i remember you talking about a possible dreed strip at that signing in subcity about the time the first twisted tales series was out
i`d love to see your take on ol stoney face

  10. lorcy Says:

  11. BRENB Says:

hey bob, email me a snippet of the new strip and ill put a post on scamp about it.

  12. Dec Says:

    The strip is gay

    Last comment.

    2000ad fans check out
    http://bifsniff.com/film-tv/slaine-the-horned-god

It’s a fan trailer (in Spanish?) for a Slaine movie

  14. gar Says:

Bob, I require a copy of that CD.

  15. OneForTheRoad Says:

    /respect

  16. Bob Byrne Says:

That Slaine thing is deadly. Amazing how I now call it Slan-yeh when talking to English people about it as if I appreciate it more because I’m Irish.

Yep have an idea for a Dredd story, it’d be worded though. I want to bring back Walter the Wobot. Maybe not.

    Bren, will do.

  17. lorcy Says:

yeah, it’s got a fada on it so i’d always go with Slan-yeh rather than saying Slaine like some irish american trying to get to a rolling stones concert

see you got a mention on the forbidden planet blog
