The Girl Guides

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Just finished a new Twisted Tales so thats 3 due to appear soonish. I realised that all the stories so far revolve around embattled, male characters so I thought about using a female for one. I ended up with two 12 year old girls but this story is by the far one of the freakiest and gruesome!

I have 2 more vague stories for these two scamps.

Let’s have a tiddley at the Milk Bar

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I’ve been on a 7 year quest to hear the song ‘Let’s have a tiddley at the Milk Bar’ after reading in Morcambe and Wise’s joint autobiography that they used to sing it in the early years of their act.

Just bought the sheet music on ebay!

Been busy the past few weeks with stuff. Done another wedding caricature. It’s something I really want to get into, it’s a nice change from drawing the usual stuff because there is a clear goal to achieve.

Janet & Thomas FLAT

Check this out, I was in Spain a few days ago and there’s these DEADLY ads on for Euro 08. Man I’m so out of touch with things that I honestly thought it was a World Cup. I have no telly and have fallen out of love with newspapers and the radio. Check this wacky robotic action out. Have they been shown over here? I don’t know

witto teapot

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

The ball stories are coming from all angles, some would really work well in comic form. Leave it with me and I’ll come back with the submission guidelines. Found this pic last week, honestly couldn’t remember why or who I drew it for.

TEAPOT

I knocked it out while on the phone to them, they wanted a silly teapot design. Would have liked to made it but trying to find smearless markers was hard. I have tonnes of lame product designs that I’ll post, some incredibly gay.

Hey fwends, yeah as suggested in the last post I’m considering a quick anthology about your balls. Anybody interested in contributing? It’d be a print on demand and web comic affair. I have a great story of how I got frost bite AND a burn blister on my daddybag all in the space of one week.

Just finished a new Twisted Tales, The Apartment, mentioned previously here It has 16 panels per page like Amperduke so it took a while. But I’m really happy with it. This is probably the last comic I’ll be doing with the old tablet, it served me well but it’s time to put it to bed.

A kid punched me in the balls yesterday

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I was just standing at the bus stop when WHAMMO!!!this 4 year old girl socked me in the daddybag. That’s all I have to say about it.

I hope she grows up with a mustache

UPDATE: Just got this great pic sent to me by Dee de Barra. I love being me!

I got a Wacom Cintiq so Neh neh neh neh

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I got my Cintiq yesterday. I’ve been feeling so antsy about it because it cost 1000+ Euros but withing 10 minutes of messing with it I knew I made the right choice. It is brilliant. It’s like after reading The Catcher in the Rye, I feel that it was made just for me and nobody else can dig it.

What sort of pushed me into getting one was talking to Stephen Thompson, I consider him to be such a high class traditional artist so it was a shock to hear him singing it’s praises. I’m sure it will free up some time so I can spend a few extra hours each week crying myself asleep alone in bed.

Derry was deadly. Met so many great people and made new friends. Dec was in top sketching form and he put me and Mooney to shame with the quality and quantities knocked out. Nick Roche was hitting them out of the park too. The kids were all so polite! A fantastic event that widdles all over the conventions in the UK. Nuff respect to David Campbell for organising everything.

Big shout out to Al Nolan for driving my doubly hungover arse all the way from Derry to my front door. What a prince. I can’t see the Irish Arts Council ever being as progressive, pack of clowns waste zillions on crap that relatively few people can or would want to engage with.

Young Dec with a sketch of The Joker I knocked out for him

I was never in Derry before and it was an eye opener. The highlight was when I was outside yapping to a woman (who turned out to David’s aunt) about the Troubles, she was pointing out parts of the city and telling me the history, then she asks me if I’d like to see something and she takes out a small plastic bag and unfolds an old handkerchief. It was the very handkerchief waved by Father Daly on Bloody Sunday as he escorted the lad who was shot to the ambulance. Poignant and touching stuff.

Brilliant weekend. I’ll post some of our sketches this week.

Fastest coloured comic page

Banged this out at lunch yesterday. If you guess the how long it took I’ll punch myself in the nuts for you. Silly stuff but fun to do. It’s part of the Irish Comic Challenge yolk. I had to draw a page on ‘The farmhand’s housemate goes on a spending spree’

The evidence

Word. Somebody sent me a link to a video of the same crew that were at Bristol. This disgusts me on many levels.

They all just want to jizz all over him. I think I’m going to renounce Star Wars. I love the first 30 minutes of Jedi but the rest can go suck Bib Fortuna’s cock tentacles.

Here’s a classic clip of Richard Christy buzzing off a twit at a convention

I’ve emailed Richard a couple of times. I love that man. Not only is he the innovative prank caller of our age but he was also the drummer in one of my favourite bands from years ago. Here’s another convention quickie
