The Jeweler

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Haven’t posted any comic work in ages. Sort of because I’ve realised that most people don’t have any interest in my drawings but instead want to hear about me whacking off into a towel.

Well here are a few snippets from my favourite Twisted Tales yet. Another 96 panel epic called the Jeweler.

First comic in Manga Studio

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Hey you guys. I’m just finishing my first full comic drawn completely in Manga Studio. It’s an incredible programme hindered only by it’s shitty name; ‘Manga Studio’. It puts everybody off, it certainly put me off around 2 years ago when I first heard about it.

Robot 4

All the videos on youtube are horrible. I don’t know why but seeing people draw those cute girls with the big eyes just annoys me. I’d really be into recording my own demos with my big knackery voice over

Robot 1

I hate drawing cars. In this story I needed an over head shot so I just pull in a car model, rotate it and draw over it. I’ve yet to use the human models but it’s all there.

Caricatures and manga studio

This has been the easiest, wedding caricature yet. I’ve just set up a new site for my caricature pictures here, presenting ….Caricature Gifts.ie

I bought the basic Manga Studio last week and it’s fucking deadly. I’ll deffo do the 24 hour comics challenge this year in about 8 hours with this.

Wiggedy Jaysis Wham!

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

This has been a great week work wise. Finally finished 2 stories for 2000AD and have Spazzmoid more or less ready to rock. I drew a Spazzmoid page in around 50 minutes yesterday. If it’s launched this weekend it’ll only have 3 pages on it and not the entire Uncle Spunk Nugget opus I had planned to open with. Ah well.

Colouring Skin in Painter

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Been messing around with skin the past two weeks to try improve my caricatures. I have a new method that’s really quick to do and looks good.

The maniacal leer of my esteemed colleague Mr. P. I’m doing a family portrait for him.

I still struggle with digital painting. There’s just too many options! Figuring out how to apply tones and colours to my comics was a breakthrough though. Below is my first ‘coloured’ page done with Corel Photopaint 6 back in 1998. Man half of Amperduke and all the MBLEH’s were coloured in Photopaint with a mouse! If you’re anyway serious about messing with colour you need a Wacom.

Just a quickie, nearly finished that Twisted Tales. I can’t post any of the good stuff or it will ruin the story. So here’s the bad stuff.

Jesus it’s shocking how different the colours look on this screen. My monitor is in bits. I have a bra and a dictionary shoved behind it to tilt it forward a bit. I also have a giant TMNT Leonardo leaning against a dodgy plug that needs to pressed or it won’t work.

New Twisted Tales out!

Hey all, The Apartment, probably my favourite Twisted Tale is out now so grab a 2000AD this week before it’s too late. It has 16 panels per page like Amperduke so you’re going to love it.

The Apartment excerpt

It features a ton of nifty robotic action and has a doooooozey of an ending. It turns out that life is just a video game being played by an alien. Yeah right! How many times has that been used? Or vampires, enough with the fucking vampires.

My main man Shalvey has a new book out which takes the piss out of mainstream comics called Tim Skinner; Total Scumbag and it’s great. It’s solid writing from Andy and Dec’s art is off the hook boyeeeez. He covers loads of different styles. Dec the heathen never heard of Fred Hembeck, who destroyed the Marvel Universe when I was 10. I loved that comic.

Man why is everything shit? Not that I’m a fan but I can assure everybody that Guns and Roses new album Chinese Democracy thoroughly sucks dick. Then I watch Irma la Douce and it’s crap THEN I watch the biggest pile of shit since the Matrix sequels in the form of The Orphanage, an absolute stinker of a movie. THEN I was so depressed that I had to take one off the wrist and instead of jizz coming out, a bunch of terrorists invaded a hotel in India.

The highlight of my weekend was beating off to this:

Mice traps outside

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

I moved into a new apartment and the grounds are all very well maintained by oompah loompahs or invisible caretakers. Every thing is spotless. But this morning I noticed there are little green boxes dotted around outside to catch mice or rats. I think it’s unfair. Yeah you can kill every pest INSIDE the apartment block but is it right to kill them outside? In their own environment. It’s like arresting people before they commit the crimes in Minority Report.

I fucking hate rats and mice. I’m like a menopausal wuss when I see them. But neh, I think it’s weird to kill them outside. After clawing acres of greenery away to build houses we should leave them little tea party sets and top hats instead of poison.

Finally got down to some artwork last night and its like a weight off my shoulders. These lads are for a new Twisted Tales

Spacesuit implosion and Oz

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Bloaw!! Just finishing up another Twisted Tales this week. It’s a good old fashioned monster vs astronauts on a space station thing. There’s a couple of implosion scenes. I presume if you’re in a space suit and it gets cracked or breached all your guts get sucked out through the hole? Is that even true? It was fun to draw though. I might even give it a second go, I wanted to show the pelvis bone coming out through the fingers.

With the Cintiq acting as a second screen now I watch things on my big monitor when I draw, not all the time but a few hours a week. I don’t have a television so it’s all downloads, been watching OZ back to back and it’s deadly. Some sloppy writing in the first few but it really gets strong fast. But I have to say that the theme tune and opening credits are AWFUL, you’d turn it off if wasn’t for the quick glimpse of a bum rape. Same with The Wire and The Sopranos too, the opening music is fantastically shit
