More Cards

Where’s Amperduke? Where’s Shiznit 5? How do you get jizz stains out of a Communion dress?
These are the questions I am constantly bombarded with. So here’s the beefio, I’m busy with other shit. I’m now working 5 days a week and have a bunch of paying gigs and favours to do. I usually could squeeze an hour here and there in work but lately I’ve just been doing non comic work. Don’t draw as much during the week too as real life tugs at my sleeve, But fuck it, I’m happy.

So Amperduke is completely drawn, the delay is working it all into book form. The cover is a nightmare but I think I’ve nailed it. The launch is mid Janurary. Cover price is looking to be 15 EURO.

So here’s some of what’s eating into my precious dossing time in work.

Cards

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Busy little bear today so here’s a quickie, these are some of the cards I’ve made people. My first paying gig was making greeting cards, ended badly though. I know Crumb started out doing card illustration too. I got a mention in the last Judge Dredd Megazine
as ‘Ireland’s R Crumb, Bob Byrne’. Sounds good to me!!

I’m such a dope, I only read his stuff about 2 years ago and really should have checked him out sooner. I’ve copied the way he does speech balloons.

My delicate constitution is just recovering from the trip to Birmingham. I’ll post about it this week and show some pics. Meanwhile
here’s some nonsense from 5 years ago. It was for a sketchbook of Irish artists. I stand by alot of these pieces but a few of them are atrocious!!

Jane Badler makes me do a sex custard

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

It has been bothering me for the past few weeks that I couldn’t think of or name my fantasy woman/pass card. I was rubbing one out to Nigella Lawson of all people and then I remembered Diana out of V.

Jane_Badler_001

Sweet Jesus. Nasty stuff. I remember being allowed stay up late to watch V and it was a badge of honour to be worn the next day in school if you saw it. I loved it, the pulling off the masks, the shoot outs and all the nutty stuff. But at the top of all this was Diana. Oh yeah, that scene where Julie is being tortured/mind probed in this tight white suit and you could see her nips was a highlight too but that snide bitch Diana could gobble my 7 year old Mickey Mouse anyday, all 2 inches of it.

UPDATE: Here she is

Neh, whatever. Here’s some other stuff found on the hard drive today. A mock up of the cover for of MBLEH issue 4 and a quick colouring in job I done while demonstrating the magic that is Corel Painter to a bunch of people.

SCHNAUZER BOT

I’m back on the Diana thing, I’m going to get Mrs.x one of those red V uniforms and make her pour red dust me and then I’ll rip off my face and then she’ll give birth to a scary but cute reptile baby and then I’ll drop a load all over Robert Englund’s face. Now THAT’s erotic. Glechk!!!!

Supermarket Ghost is in the shops. Drew the cover and 8 illo’s for it. They went for a less spookier cover design in the end. Also, Robot’s Don’t Cry has gone into it’s second print run. Wahey! Here’s some prelims for SG

Sketchbook Nonsense

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Booya! Hols were good. Finally conquered my long standing and perfectly rational fear of swimming in the sea. Managed to ’switch off’ for the first time in a while. Was really happy with this until I realised the book I was reading, Michael Palin’s Diaries 1969-1979,
just filled the void because all he talks about is how many hours work he got done and how he’s not getting enough done etc. So I was just re-routing all my stress through the book! Wank.

Done some doodling…

This was gas. We went on a trip to the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus and this old couple kept clucking and tuuting about how it’s
all been changed, how it’s all been ruined with development since they were last here. Thinking that they must have been there in the 70’s or something I asked when had they been. The woman says ” Oh it’s all awful!! AWFUL! Here, let me show you, I have photos”. Reaches into her bag and I’m expecting a bound photo album…..but she whips out a camera phone to show me the pic. They were there four years ago. The only difference was an extra umbrella on the beach. Dopes.

Greetings Earthlings

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

bob-byrnebruno-senesismall

Did a half hour doodle for my main man Fustar’s new venture ‘Greetings Earthlings’. It was a trade for a pic by his 5 year old niece which I’ll put up tomorrow. I love kids drawings, fascinated by them. Adults seem to lose the wonderful sillyness and inhibitions about scribbling a picture. I’m constantly pestering people who don’t usually draw to do me a pic and they always think it’s me trying to make fun of them but it’s the opposite. The lamer and better. Artists get too uptight about drawing.

You should draw, sing or rub one out everyday because it’s good for your soul. Oh yeah, the picture, I still havent got a free screen recorder so I cant record my antics anymore. Anyone know of one that STAYS free? I’m buying a new pc this week so mail the shit out of me with recommendations.

Best of luck to Fustar with the new site, I love all that crap.

Supermarket Ghost cover and 24 hour comics 2007

    supermarket ghost cover

Booya! This years 24 hour comic day is 20th to 21st in the Central Hotel, Exchequer St Dublin. It’s an annual event where you have to churn out a 24 page comic in 24 hours. I did it last year and it was a great experience, you always work better under pressure. Anybody interested in getting into comics or who want to brush up on their skills should give it a go. I’m opting to do a
12 hour one this year instead of the full 24 hours because I’m cranky enough as it is without staying up all night. Somebody GIVE ME A FUCKING RUSK.

    Here’s the official site
    Here’s the boards.ie thread

And here’s my one from last year.

Again fair play to Cliodhna for organising it.

Hey Hey Fucknuts! Nearly finished my first, ahem, ‘animated cartoon’ for my new employers. They think I know what I’m doing! Jokes on them. Here’s some bits from it. Basically a rip off, like most of my stuff, of Sergio Aragones. Should be finished by next week. By that I mean fired.
