Nozin’ Around

I found one my favourite clips the other day. When I had this on VHS I wore the tape out rewinding it. Nozin’ Around, a painfully spot on parody in The Young Ones of yoof tv from the 80’s. Everything in it is funny. Every time I see or am involved with a contrived attempt to connect with the kids I think of Nozin’ Around.

I’m not a fan of Ben Elton on camera but this is his finest work. Check out the Professor’s little spaz fit when he cracks the joke. The whole thing is perfect and so fast paced.

I’m going wear out youtube from replaying it.

haha yeah i remember that clip - ’tis gold.

Things haven’t changed that much on yoof tv. i don’t think any-one over 25 can make a programme that relates to that post school bum about crew, with their fancy haircuts and hover phones…..
I used to be wit it, then they changed what ‘it’ was.

  3. Bob Byrne Says:

Yeah man I am so out touch too, last year all the modern bands just confused me but now they ANGER me. I fucking hate all these new wanky bands.

    Young adults. Remember Jo Maxi?

  4. Kyle Says:

    @collieennis:

I’m not too sure about that; sure, for the most part when over-25’s try to be “down with it” you get dreck like The Big Bow Wow, but every now and again you’ll get genius stuff like The Mighty Boosh…

That said, most new bands seem to be trendy wankers. Ah, for the days when Pennywise hadn’t decided to churn out the same album over and over again…

  5. Bob Byrne Says:

Neh, watched two episodes of the Boosh and it didn’t do it for me. For the record I also HATE League of Gentleman, Southpark and Little Britain. Absolutely horrible wastes of time. Favs are Curb, Peepshow and Arrested Development, now THAT’s proper comedy.

Modern music, what the fuck? That Talking Heads rip off sound, what’s going on? Music stopped being good around 1984.

  6. uiscebot Says:

    I agree re curb etc

the boosh is very hit and miss but the whole ‘i’m old greg do you want some Baileys’ sketch had me sold.

I was less impressed when i realised it was just a rip-off of flight of the conchords tv show though. Now that’s funny…

    kyle:
yeah the boosh is class (that byrne chap REALLY an’t down with the kids) but its not tryin to be trendy or informative… it just a show.
I was talking bout those ‘why dont you?’ and Jo Maxi shows….. tripe!

    word up!

  8. Kyle Says:

Outside of south park and a bit of little britain I’ve not really watched any of those, so can’t really comment on them. I do like the boosh but it seems to be one of those “cult” things where a few people like it and the rest don’t see what the fuss is about. (That said, I heard the radio show before seeing the TV show, and I think that may have helped to a certain extent as a lot of the material in the first season is actually better suited to radio…)

  9. Bob Byrne Says:

That Boosh clip was horrible. He obviously saw Chapelle’s Rick James bit with some Papa Lazaroo thrown in. Awful, contrived wackiness. I hate it. Trying too hard. Didn’t laugh once. Absolutely shit. SHIT!

  10. Liam Says:

Boosh is the first show I’ve ever liked where one episode can be really quality and another can be the biggest load of camel shit. Even still . . . *clings on to his Boosh Live tickets* You can’t beat. ol’ Larry David.

Have you seen Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law? It’s great. Birdman has given up his superhero days to become an attorney and represent various cartoon characters in court cases such as when Shaggy and Scooby get busted for drugs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R76jSM7GfYc

  11. Kyle Says:

Ah now Bob, I won’t defend the Old Gregg episode as I didn’t think it was all that good, but you can’t watch these bits and tell me there’s nothing good about the show:

  12. ZZZ Says:

Boosh rules you faggot. You can’t judge it by one clip. How old are you anyway? I can’t stand Curb your entusisam. You’re a shithead

  13. Bob Byrne Says:

Ah suck my balls you clown. I hope your kids die of AIDS.

I will watch those clips tonight, I know you can’t judge a show from one clip but I watched two full shows back to back you dick.

  14. luke Says:

arrested development, peepshow, curb your enthusiasum, trailerpark boys, anything with mitchell and webb,8 out of 10 cats, smoking room, black books, father ted(well pretty much everythang by Linehan..),and then of course shows like family guy, alot of stuff on adultswim, shit old gameshows like Crystal Maze and Supermarket Sweep…all gold

I liked that old Greg clip!I saw it about a year ago and I pissed myself.it might have had something to do with it being my first exsposure to the word “mangina” though…

most T.V executives must think that connecting with the young folk means putting in a token black and handicapped kid in a show about a highschool in malibu where they face problems such as someone called the handicapped kid a spastic or something and they all learn by the end of the episode that its what`s on the inside that counts.
    Fuck them all.
and you`re right, feck all those posh longhaired wankers with cockney/american accents and those sickening women`s cardigans
they all insist on wearing. But equally well it`s always funny to see one of these shits give out about America…in American accents.

  15. Kyle Says:

Out of curiosity bob, which two episodes did you see? As I say I like most of the show but there have been several patchy episodes, particularly in the first season….

  16. Bob Byrne Says:

    First season. Check this:

  17. luke Says:

    what an angry,angry man.

  20. Bridgeen Says:

Hey Bob, just look what you started!! A whole debate on mondern comedy. For some one so young you’re full of some serious bile. Fuck, what do you really remember of 1984?? And stop perving me drawings! lol! (if only i looked like that all the time, eh?) Any who, i’ve been meaning to drop you a line to say hello for a while now but i don’t have you’re right email you said.So send me you contact details! i’ve a few links for you.
    B

  21. Bridgeen Says:

p.s, what do you mean you don’t like the league of gentlemen? That just tells me you haven’t watched it. Some one of your twisted sensibilities should love it as much as i do. Harumphf!

  22. Bob Byrne Says:

    Peep Show, I love it.

Exactly, loads of people tell me I should love League of Gmen but I watched most of the episodes and never laughed. I find it interesting but not funny, if I want to be disturbed I have a great imagination to play with. So it’s not comdey, comedy makes people laugh. People laugh at the Marx Bros.

1984, I was 5 but little did I know that the punk era was just dying off. I liked Nick Kershaw when I was a kid by the way (my ma put a patch on my jacket and all) but I was only 7.

Anyway, let’s all agree with me. Do we all agree that SouthPark is fucking gick and people who watch it are obviously slow and probably find electronic music entertaining and spit when they talk?

  23. luke Says:

ah I don`t have strong feelings either way about south park.I wouldn`t say it`s gick though.I`m a bit “mweh” when I see it now but back in the day it was enjoyable enough. But then I discovered shows like Peep Show and comedians like Dylan Moran and I realized comedy didn`t have to be stupid to be funny.
so you were born in 1979!?hahahaha! although 1979 might as well be 1902 to a young rapscallion like myself…

  24. Kyle Says:

Ah Bob, South Park has gone to shite now but up to about 6 seasons in they had some fucking genius stuff. Hell, the first episode of Season 5 is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in cartoon form. It’s gone to cack now, but then pretty much any form of entertainment that goes on long enough eventually turns to shit. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t good to start with. If you want shit not-all-that-funny animation, look at the Boondocks cartoon - the really sad thing being that the comic strip was viciously funny, but the cartoon’s just crap.

That guy’s anti-Boosh rant could’ve been a good review of the show’s various weaknesses if it hadn’t quicky degenerated into a load of reactionary “wah, some of its fans are teenage posers so it must be shit” toss though….

  25. PMC Says:

Not really a South Park man, King of the Hill is where its at. The comedy is a little more subtle, but brilliant. Its cool how they age the characters over the seasons too, like giving Dales kid facial hair and stuff.
I remember reading an article i Wizard magazine a few years back (nerds ahoy) and it was some guy blasting South Park. He said something like:
‘In the simpsons they make Homer impotent and make jokes about it, in south park they make Cartman impotent and that is the joke’
So south park can suck me arse anyway.

Now a Hate cartoon- THAT would rock.

  26. Bob Byrne Says:

Yeah King of the Hill is deadly, is it still on? Right enough talking about TV shows. I don’t care anymore. All I care about right now is releasing my scalding hot globes of liquid mank, I haven’t had a wank in nearly 2 weeks.

  27. PMC Says:

Had one this morning before I left the gaff.

  28. erok Says:

It’s all horrible. All of it. Southpark, The Simpsons, Family Guy? Agh! If they were people, I would tie them up and leave them in my basement, fearfully awaiting my return from work.

Arrested Development was ace. Curb Your Enthusiasm likewise. Everything else is horrible. Horrible and pointless.

  29. PMC Says:

Yeah the simpsons really should have bowed out gracefully a few years back.

  30. Kyle Says:

Heh, bob if it’s smut yer after why not damage your brain by taking a look at cakefart dot com? (About as far from worksafe as you can get, although I think that goes without saying…)

  31. cliodhna Says:

Never got the whole Boosh thing - nearly every american I know fucking loves it and I don’t think they even get most of it. Same goes for little britain - Waste of space. I will defend South Park as I actually think the last 2 seasons has been some of the best stuff they’ve done. King of the hill is still great. The new futurama dvd’s have been kind “ugh” really wished they’d ended the simpsons and moved all the attention to futurama years ago. never liked family guy or american dad.

    Anyone else loving Metalocalypse? http://youtube.com/watch?v=tmLYeyNe–0

  32. Liam Says:

Metalocalypse? That’s Brendon Small’s new cartoon right? I used to love his show Home Movies. They used to show it on Cartoon Network despite the fact that the characters would occasionally swear.

  33. darla Says:

i like little britain. it is interestign hw people try so hard to have youth appeal.try that with teenagers and they will sacrifice you on the web, simple as that…

  34. darla Says:

i tried to understand the appeal of league of gentleman but inbred locals, just nt funny,i survived living in cork,it just brings back bad vibes.
