Twisted Tales begins!
Just got word from Tharg that my first Twisted Tales will be in the next prog; number 1536 bitch. I’m doing a signing in Sub City next week on the 11th or the 12th I think so come down and get a back rub off me. There’s another signing in Sub City Galway in June too for Freak Show.
Going over to Aberdeen this month for a launchy signing thing with Dec for Your Round too.

I sure did capitalise quick. Not a lot of people know what the Shiznit is, everyone knows what 2000AD is. Want to sell the book, and no one knows my stuff, so i’m basically using Bob to my own ends. I have to namedrop that Byrne fella, just so people will pay attention to me!

Yep Aberdeen in Scotland it is. Dec you’re my Gavan Friday. Kyle I’m sure it’ll be available through Diamond and in the comic shops in Dublin and I suppose from Dec too.

Just picked up 2000AD and very surprised to see the “Twisted Tale” in there. Excellent work and, dear lord, really quite disturbing! Are there a few of these planned?

Hey Bob - congrats! Picked up a copy today. I thought about your signing thing and it reminded me of the 2000 AD signings I went to years ago. Can’t believe I know a 2000 AD person….
Hey I was thinking about the Arts Council thing. You should tell them you are making once off versions of comics, actual “pieces of art”, and the include that art in your comics as the cover or whatever. So you’d be getting funding off them in a round about way… or something like that. Know what I mean?

A Symposium A Banquet is a meeting time for the exchange of lessons, knowledge and to share experiences over a banquet table. Bruce Mau’s ‘Incomplete Manifesto’ describes the ‘in-between’ times as those where the best ideas, or real growth, stem from. A Symposium A Banquet is an attempt to revert to the original meaning of the word ’symposium’, as a social occasion for the exchange of ideas and shared food and drink by curating an evening of formal and informal knowledge exchanges.
Real growth often happens outside of where we intend it to, in the interstitial spaces - what Dr. Seuss calls “the waiting place.”
Our guests will explore the diversity of presentation and presentation modes, then move upstairs for a gallery banquet, where we hope the exchange of ideas will continue, helping to cross-pollinate the resources with which we work, and the tools we rely on to develop our thought. Lectures are being prepared for the evening by an irrational selection of people who will cumulatively provide lessons from a vast array of knowledge disciplines. Ranging from science to fashion and philosophy to sport, the lectures will also undulate in length depending on the speaker and their topic - anywhere between 5 minutes and 40 minutes. Have you ever desired to know how to tear a phonebook in half? What contribution has String Theory made to the world of mathematics? What is the legacy of Chris Burden’s seminal performance action? What is The Village? Who is making dessert?
Produced by Fiona Hallinan and Tessa Giblin, the evening will be orchestrated to a specific tempo, aiming to facilitate the intake of information while keeping attention riveted.

A Symposium A Banquet has been influenced by a variety of sources. There was the meeting with Peter from Pinc (pinc.nl), Plato’s Symposium, there was Vaari who introduced us to Pecha-Kucha, the Mobile Academy’s ‘Blackmarket for Useful Knowledge’ and Learning is Fun at Trinity Arts Festival last year. That’s what we were thinking - what is it to learn - to teach in order to learn - to hunger for stimulation beyond your expertise - to wonder - to muse - but where we end up is still to be seen.

Picked up my copy over the weekend and muchly dug it, my good man.
On a totally different note, I know you don’t draw much by hand any more but what size would you draw at if you were doing things by hand? A4? A3?
I’m just wondering if you’ve ever done anything poster-sized or the like before…

I used to do everything a4 but then switched to those ‘pro boards’. If you’re
in Dublin, check out A4ART on Thomas Street, they sell deadly pre ruled a4 pages and all the proper manga pens. The bigger you draw the fucker the better but a4 is grand.

Fuck it, there goes my time-honoured excuse for crap artwork as “I draw A4 and everyone else draws bigger”. Still, nice to hear I’m not the only one who doesn’t want to draw everything on cinema-poster-sized paper…
