The mere mention ‘Only For A Choccy Biccy’ in issue 4 had me in stitches. I hadn’t even thought of that joke since I was about seven years old, and it all came back. It was especially tasty when qualified with ‘Giddy Schoolyard Classic And Vaguely Racist’…Newry was a dark place in the 80s.

Ha ha Lorcy Wee, you got me laughing secretly on the job and disguising it as a throat clearing. Yep, Count Curly Wee is the strangest thing and in all seriousness has harmed Irish comics, think about it;3 generations have been exposed to it, sucked in by the illustration then limping off disgusted like someone spet in their ear. And that’s their fisrt experience with comics. Like the Scoutmaster dropping the hand before you get your first bagde.

Yeah…The Slate, my main beef is that they done a legger on the printers without paying them. Cardinal sin. Fuck it, if they did I’m sure they’ve caught up with them cuz everyone know he’s works as the producer for Marianne Finnucane now. Plus the whole ‘everythings shit’ tone of their reviews. Too easy! But I gotsta say there were around 4 consecutive issues that were really good and I pestered them to let me draw something. I’m going to end up as Joe Duffy’s tea boy am’nt I?

count curly wee!! it was always only two or three panals in the national rag so could never understand what was going on, never mind the peotry lesson. this is a major improvement and a great boost for those weirdy old style “comics”.

p.s. does anyone remember that terrible beano spoof about the jamie bulger murder in the slate, lest we forget, in an era when no one can make good jokes about anything wihtout fear of recrimination, these slate boyos did this, they never revealed their address! if i was doing something I thought was funny I’d want everyone to know, if someone is afraid to reveal their address as a creator, surely something’s wrong?
