Is Top Gear fake and scripted?
Yes.
A strange topic to bring up here but it needs to said. I’ve been watching it and enjoying it for 3 weeks in a row but when I hear people talk about it I want to slap them.
I’ve found myself watching telly on Sunday nights again and I like the programme. But this is what kills me, their ad libs and wacky stories are rehearsed and contrived and it should be glaringly clear to most people but it’s not. I said it to a bloke I know and he just couldn’t accept it.
The hosts have freely admitted that they rehearse and write their lines and loads of the stunts are phoney. Look at this, the famous Reliant Space Shuttle stunt and it’s fake explosion.
Now again I’m not dumping on the show just the fuckwits who take whats presented on screen as fact and not as the silly but enjoyable pantomime it is. They admitted that this caravan scene was pure fake and it even got a mention on Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipes as a prime example of this kind of shit.
This was described to me by a friend and he was so sucked into the whole thing. It’s worrying, that perfectly normal intelligent people don’t know when they are being played. I don’t think I’m stating the obvious with this one.
Top Gear is now followed by the Long Way Down which is 3 lads on bikes followed by around 500 support people in a convoy behind them and it could do with some of the Top Gear fakery. It’s SHIT!! Where’s the challenge or excitement?
Bring back the Crystal Maze.
Don’t believe the hype.

I’ve no prob admitting that I love Top Gear [got upset when the hamster was hurt, sad but true] and couldn’t give a shit if its fake or whatever you want to call it - its funny. I’d rather be watching fake carven fires then spending my saturday night watching the x-factor
Long way down is pretty boring - Micheal Palin did the same route in pole to pole years ago and he is twice the age of the two of them and he used public transport which is alot scarier then riding around on a moterbike.

Yeah I suspected as much but the fake explosion there was a surprise. It really has gone more Brainiac/Grange Hill recently. I agree that alot of people just blindly accept that all their witicisms (?) are spontanious when they’re not. Thats gay.

Neh, it’s just worked out that I’m in a room with a telly the past 3 sundays. I have no major love of any programme except Mythbusters and I just download them. Glenroe was scripted too.

mythbusters is brilliant too!
yeah takeshis castle is deadly, especially the parent/child ones.
little kids watching their parents being pummeled by footballs on a bridge!
classic!

best takeshis castle is the parent/cjild one where the child is a human fly and the parent just fecks them really hard againist the wall to see if they will stick

Aw yeah! Takeshi’s Castle is the mutts nuts. HATE Craig Charles’ commentary though. Top Gear, I can’t stand the new incarnation and find the false chuminess and terrible stiff ad libs sickening. Being a mechanic i used to wank to it in the 80’s but now it’s just a laughable family show. Women are watching it. Nuff fokkin said.

Despite the fact that the show is scripted, when I grow up I still want to be like James May.
Clarkson is a spanner though.
I don’t own a car and I can’t drive, but I still love Top Gear. Funny that.
