Snodule

Still too tied up with shit to sit down and pour scorn in rant form. so here’s something I dug up recently for a submission. The 6 page Amperdule story (here) was originally meant to feature this character but he looked too cartoony beside the Lego men, so needing more contrast I replaced Snodule with the ‘Duke. Plus everyone was saying the style was too Jim Woodring which isnt a bad thing really. My first silent comic……

And here’s the best bit, a rendition of Snodule by my favourite artist and inspiration Guy Davis! Fuckin’ ell!! Doesn’t get any better than that. Still havent posted my thesis on Guy Davis and how much discovering him has changed my approach to drawing and storytelling, plus he’s a gentleman and and and he can shoot lasers from his neck and fly and timetravel and he poo’s marzipan. I’m going to fly him over to be my best man if I get married. To him.

  2. Dec Says:

Yeah, i suppose an ickle but, but still, it’s distinctly your own.

This is my favourite strip out off all the other crap that’s in Mbleh. I really liked that character actually, shame you gave him the bump.

If you marry Mr. Guy Davis, can i be HIS best man, since he’ll be yours?

Love his stuff. I drool over BPRD every month.

  3. Tropy_29 Says:

Jesus shit! You’ve gotta’ be one lucky fuck to have Guy draw one of your own creations. That and the fact he’s one of your biggest influences makes me envy you even more.
What B.P.R.D. page did you buy anyways?

  4. Moondog Says:

Love the Davis. Sandman Mystery Theatre was something else. Loving his BPRD stuff too, almost more than Mignola.

  5. Ger Tully Says:

smashing work as always. Jaysis it seems like a lifetime ago that I bought that issue of mbleh. What was it, 2003?

  6. Bob Byrne Says:

Hey nigs! Yeah Luke, Frank was a big influence on me when I was around your age. A silent comic with sickening cartoon imagery. It’s definitely a homage/rip off of that.

Dec you can be the flower girl.

Tropypoo, I bought page 4 from The Black Flame #2. First page I’ve bought from anyone and when I get my finances sorted I’ll be buying more. I’ll be posting more about it soon

Mooney I’m glad Hellboy and Mignola isnt in it BPRD. Much prefer Guy’s work. I’ve bought just about everything he’s worked on including his first venture The Realm, complete with reassuringly dodgy art.

Yeah Ger 2003 I think. That IS a lifetime ago. If you are three, no I mean it seems like a different life and all.

  9. Mickler Says:

That Davis lad is good alright. Nice and messy lines. Which other contempory artists do you dig?

  10. Bob Byrne Says:

Neh, I like a few other heads like Johnny Ryan, Clowes, Aragones and all but nobody in the ‘real’ comic world. Hate that Shalvey cunt

  11. luke Says:
