Philips HDD065 2GB: avoid this piece of shit

I've learned an important lesson in 2006; don't cheap out.

True of cheap footwear and definitely true when it comes to consumer electronics. The Philips
HDD065 MP3 Player is the biggest pile of shit I've been suckered into buying since those magic beans back in '84. I was reluctant to shell out on an ipod but now I'm converted.

Where to begin dissing this? You'd have to be a weak smurf to be able to apply the correct pressure on the forward/rewind button without skipping the entire track. Besides the crap navigational functions most of the issues are with the pc connectivity. It won' t let me add tracks. It won't let me reformat it. Certain tracks have corrupted on it. The manditory Musicmatch software won't recognise the device. It smells of piss. There's loads of faults with it.

But don't take my word for it, Below are SOME of the reviews from shopireland.ie, the full list
is here . You know what the worst thing is? I put a precious Kamen Rider sticker on it thinking
I'd have it for life. I hope those brand evangelists drop by and do their thing.

Rating: - PLEASE DONT BOTHER!
I received this as a gift and though I got on ok for the first few months Im now sick to death of it. The earphones are great, sound quality is good and software is very easy to use.... BUT ... it would appear there is a common fault that the backlight goes (flickers on and off) and that it reaches a stage where the device will not even turn on.Even when the device was fully operational, the services offered are very limited. Granted, no mp3 player will double as a personal organiser but its nice to have a few extra bits isn't it??Im about to return mine to go with a zen and would advise you to do the same!

Rating: - TERRIBLE!
do not buy this mp3 player! you will completely regret it! this is a waste of money and a waste of time! the player spontaneously will shut off, doesn't stay charged for 10 hours, like it says it will, the software is a pain to use, my earbuds were faulty and the covers always fell off until i finally superglued them on...i could go on and on about the problems! please, do not buy this mp3 player, you will strongly regret it! good luck if you bought it and don't have problems yet...i'm sure you will!!

Rating: - DONT BUY
I got my HDD070/05 for christmas and it worked for a week, now it wont turn on at all, the computer doesnt regonize it wen i put it in an dwen i try and charge it the only thing that comes on is the light wen its actually supposed to turn on fully.. I am not happy with this product one bit, i am returning it tomarrow and i will hope for a refund.. I also searched the internet to find people who had problems withe their HDD070/05 and i found hundreds with the same and differnt problems.. So i recommend you stear clear of this product...

Rating: - philips HDD070
this product is unreliable and shameful. when i bought this product many things went wrong with it. the keys got jammed and therefore wasted the battery down and now the details have become blured and unreadable. do not buy this product.

Morbid Milton Mini Series

There's so much good shit happening these days that I forgot to
post this. The original 8 page Morbid Milton story will be available in
the March Previews and I'm flying through a new 3 issue mini series.

Dwight is a man after my heart because the mini will feature some
great scenes of robots, jetpacks, slime, goo and gore. My kind of
stuff. To speed up the production process I bought some of those
Blue Line Pro Boards and although they are the biz, having to scan
them and then piece them together is a nuiscance. Looking to buy
an A3 scanner but they cost serious bread.

One of the best things about working on Milton is that I don't
have to letter or colour. The colourist for the project is a dude
called Freddy Lopez, his work is truely amazing and it's a great
incentive to keep banging out the artwork knowing that Mr
Lopez will rock a number on it, same with the lettering, Thomas
Mauer handles all that. He's a mine of technical info about comic
production and extremely helpful. I'm still undecided about the
choice of typeface though, any suggestions?

I''ll slap up some preview artwork next week. Click here for my
original Morbid Milton post.

Here's a tiny peek at Freddy's colours. Look at that brain!!

Dr Seuss in da Hoose

I never had any Dr Seuss books as a kid. My brother had Yurtle the
Turtle but even then I could I tell that that book sort of falls outside
of what I'd reckon to be the core material.

My cousins had loads of them and I always loved flicking through them.
It's only over the past 3 years that I've started to study the works
of the great Theodore Geisel. I've been working on two kid's books
and thought it would do me good to see how the Master operates
and although I picked up very little technical tips, the one lesson I
came away with is this: Never try second guess your audience.

I've heard that from publishers before but I now know the true
meaning of it. If you want an example read Fox in Socks, what the
fuck is that all about? Click here for text. It cracks me up everytime
I (try) read it. And what could be better to a kid than a story that
the parent loves reading? Although I've read enough about his life
and work process to know rhyming was a supreme effort for him,
I take this book as the shining example of sincerity; no obvious
preachy moral, no cute kids, has creepy artwork and freaky humour
that by all rights shouldn't appeal to anyone but it IS a revered all time
classic.

Anyway, besides that I have two reasons for this post. First of all is this:

I'm always googling 'clam' to see what I can find and last week I
found this .The Cat in the Hat is back, ghostwritten and ghostscribbled
by 3 people. I honestly feel his back catalogue (cat-in-the-hatalogue?)
is enough without adding to it. The ethics of continuing to create
Dr Seuss books while Dr Seuss is dead irks me but not too much.
He's going to live forever through his original stories but with these
Tupac 'from beyond the grave' books it'll make sure new generations
of brats will be exposed.

The second thing is this: most fans aren't aware of the good doctor's
career before Mulberry St. There's a clamtastic site here that has LOADS
of his wartime and editorial cartoons which show a complete different side
to the man. You can search by year, country (Ireland below) , battle or
people. There are a few recurring motifs and character designs that would
eventually make it into his children's books. So even if you have only
passing interest in the man or the creative process it's well worth a look.
